This medium-sized Cossid moth has broad tastes as a larval borer. Like all members of the family adults do not feed. Their tastes overlap with those of humans with both native and introduced trees targeted including, coffee, tea, walnuts and many other plantation tree species. The genus is widespread in the northern hemisphere extending from eastern Europe and north Africa east to Japan and then south as far as tropical northern Australia
